BETONTONTON 2023 / 2024 – sound art in public space
Submission Deadline: November 19th, 2023, 11:59 PM (UTC)
Dear Sound Artists,
for the second edition of BETONTONTON, we are looking for captivating soundart and ideas for micro-concerts that explore themes of safe spaces, shelter, warmth & friendship – to be presented / performed at Ebertplatz in Cologne.
The works will be played via a 2-channel sound system in the ceiling of Ostpassage at Ebertplatz. This sound system was installed in 2020 and has so far hosted works by Ensemble del Cerro, SONIQ & Merzouga Collective, Tan Bone, Dublab, Roman Jungblut, and Óstov Collective.
The chosen submissions of this open call will start playing in November 2023 until June 2024.
Since these works will be experienced in public spaces, including at night, it is crucial that they do not induce fear or unease in an unsuspecting audience. Please also be mindful that there is a permanent exhibition of Ukrainian illustrations in the lightboxes of the adjacent passage.
We welcome submissions of already existing works, which may be adapted in any way for this event. Because while performance fees (for micro-concerts as well as installations) will be provided, please note that this is a non-commissioned opportunity.
We encourage all forms of sound art and musical expression and invite you to submit your most innovative and thought-provoking works, within the described constraints.
To apply, please submit:
- A brief description of your work
- Audio or video samples
- Your contact information
- Any questions or inquiries
Please send your submissions to submissions@betontonton.de.
This showing is curated by Roman Jungblut, who will invite a voluntary jury to make the final selection. Rest assured that while your personal information/vita may be included in your application, the voluntary jury will receive your work description and samples anonymized.
We look forward to receiving your contributions to BETONTONTON and celebrating shelter, warmth and friendship through sound art.
